Senior Environmental Scientist

  • Contract:12 month initial contract 
  • Location: WFH  / Sydney CBD (SOME TRAVEL REQUIRED)
  • Rate: $65 - $70/hour + Super

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Seeking an experienced environmental professional to prepare and manage an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a major infrastructure project in Western NSW. The role is responsible for writing, managing and delivering the EIS and preparing and obtaining other relevant State / Commonwealth approvals to meet the client’s needs and agreed timeframes and budget.

 

The expected deliverables are:

• Preparation of a complex Environmental Impact Statement, and other relevant State and Commonwealth approvals as required, for a major NSW Government infrastructure project located in Western NSW to ensure timely delivery of approvals

• Engagement with relevant stakeholders including State Government agencies, Commonwealth approval bodies and other stakeholders as necessary

• Liaison and management of specialist professionals currently engaged for the project and, where required, engagement and management of any additional specialist sub-consultants necessary to complete the EIS or other approvals required

• Provide assistance and support to the Environment and Planning Team through the preparation of other environmental assessment documents for a range of other infrastructure projects as required.

 

The main project this contractor role will assist with is the delivery of the NSW Wild Dog Fence Extension Project.

 

ABOUT YOU

• Degree in Environmental Science or equivalent with eligibility for member status to the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand.

Must have Demonstrated experience in the preparation (writing), project management and delivery of (NSW) EIS for complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects 

• Extensive knowledge and experience in the environmental impact assessment process and relevant NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation.

• Experience in engaging and liaising with State and Commonwealth government stakeholders, including the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, with respect to EIS requirements and negotiating conditions of approval.

• Experience managing specialist consultants in areas such as archaeology, heritage, ecology and biodiversity conservation and hydrogeology.

• Experience in reviewing specialist environmental studies and environmental impact assessment reports prepared by others,

• A valid NSW Driver’s license and willingness to drive to remote locations which may include overnight stays.

• As this Project traverses several States, experience with interstate environmental assessments and an understanding of South Australian and / or Queensland legislation and approval requirements would be desirable.
