In Part 2 of this series, Contract recruitment expert and author, Sophie Robertson talks about some of the benefits of staffing your projects with contractors.
She mentions some great points around the fact that it can actually work out cheaper than hiring full time employees, simply because you're hiring on a project basis. Once the job is complete then then contractor finishes up. With a permanent employee though, if you no longer need them then you have to pay them a redundancy and this can become expensive.
But this is only one part of the pie. Sophie also talks about the skill sets required to complete certain tasks of projects. If an employee doesn't have those skills, the business will generally be out of pocket needing to provide the training and resources so the employee can do the job. However with contracting, if you need a particular skill, you can go to market and hire the appropriate contractor for the job without those additional costs.
