My client is on the lookout for a Senior Database Administrator with exceptional experience in PostgreSQL and enterprise-scale database architecture.
In this role you will collaborate closely with Development and Data teams, designing and maintaining solutions using big-data technologies as the company scales globally. You will be a key contributor to designing resilient, high-performance data solutions for a transaction-heavy fintech environment. The role involves working with AWS utilising tools such as AWS RDS PostgreSQL, GitHub, Redis, RabbitMQ, Linux, Datadog etc.
Key Responsibilities
Database Architecture & Administration
- Research and deploy proof of concept (PoC) for new emerging technologies.
- Lead the design, installation, configuration, optimisation and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases (AWS RDS) across production and non-production environments.
- Define and implement scalable database architectures and techniques to support business growth and increasing compliance requirements.
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and security best practices.
Performance Engineering
- Drive query optimisation, indexing strategies, and schema design for large-scale transactional systems.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, locks, and deadlocks.
- Partner with developers to optimise various procedures including triggers, and data access patterns.
Collaboration & Solution Design
- Work closely with DevOps, Development, and Data/Reporting teams to design data solutions aligned with application architecture.
- Provide technical leadership on database integration for new products and features.
- Advise on database schema design, optimisation, and maintenance strategies to support efficient data storage, database integrity, scalability and performance across the organisation's environments.
- 24x7 assist in proactive monitoring and support of the solutions deployed.
Automation & Observability
- Automate routine DBA tasks using Python and infrastructure-as-code principles.
- Implement advanced monitoring and alerting using Datadog, Grafana, and other observability tools.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure database environments meet PCI DSS and other regulatory standards.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, processes, and architectural decisions.
- Conduct security risk and vulnerability assessments on developed and installed databases.
Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years in database administration, with 5+ years dedicated to PostgreSQL in production environments.
- Proven experience in solution architecture and designing scalable, secure database systems.
- Strong knowledge of SQL optimisation, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python).
- Exposure to AWS RDS and cloud-native architectures; multi-cloud experience is a plus.
- Experience in financial services or other high-volume transactional environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with NoSQL and in-memory databases (Redis, etc.) is advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced, agile environment
