Senior Java Engineer

Our client, a leading player in the financial services sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Java Engineer to join their Asset Management Technology group based in Galway. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of high-performing software systems in the High Income Alternatives area.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in writing clear, testable, and maintainable code. You will design robust back-end systems using Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka, while also contributing to front-end development with React, Typescript, or Angular. Operating within Agile teams, you will leverage CI/CD tools such as Jenkins to ensure seamless delivery and deployment. Your responsibilities include transforming user stories into practical software features aligned with business goals and collaborating closely with engineers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain scalable AWS-hosted backend systems leveraging Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka.
  • Implement front-end components using React, Typescript, or Angular with state management tools like NGRX.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality features.
  • Lead code and design reviews, providing mentorship and technical guidance to peers.
  • Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, and reliability standards.
  • Adopt test-driven and acceptance test-driven development approaches to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues and identify practical solutions.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Strong object-oriented programming skills with Java backend development expertise.
  • Experience with messaging frameworks such as Kafka and web frameworks like Spring Boot.
  • Hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or Typescript) and state management.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and continuous integration/delivery pipelines using tools like Jenkins.
  • Ability to design systems for scalability and performance.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and delivering high-quality software.
