Principal Cloud Operations Engineer

  • Cork or Dublin based with 2-3 days/week in the office
  • €80-€90k/year + 10% bonus + excellent benefits package

Our client, a leading healthcare provider, seeks a Principal Cloud Operations Engineer to join their IT Operations department on a hybrid basis in Cork (ideally) or Dublin. This critical role involves leading the operations and optimization of cloud platforms to ensure scalability, performance, and security across all cloud services.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure leveraging Microsoft Azure and AWS platforms.
  • Ensure cloud services meet rigorous performance, availability, and security standards aligned with CIS, ISO, and NIST frameworks.
  • Collaborate closely with architecture and security teams to implement robust cloud governance.
  • Lead cloud automation efforts and drive Infrastructure-as-Code using tools such as Terraform, Github Actions, Bicep, and Azure DevOps.
  • Monitor cloud usage; develop and implement cost optimization strategies.
  • Troubleshoot complex cloud-related issues and lead root cause analysis to minimize downtimes.
  • Manage strategic third-party cloud security solutions including Palo Alto and PAM/PIM tools.
  • Provide mentorship to cloud engineers and promote best practices across Azure, Microsoft 365, Azure AD/Entra ID, and AWS environments.

Your Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline.
  • Certifications required: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solution Architect, ITIL 4 Foundation.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in IT operations, with strong leadership and technical expertise in cloud services at enterprise scale.
  • Deep knowledge of public and private cloud technologies, cloud automation, and infrastructure governance.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to lead critical incident resolutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to operate autonomously within a collaborative IT environment.
