Team Leader Environmental Assessments

  • Location: Parramatta/remote
  • Base PR: $71 - $77/hr excl. super 
  • Contract: 6 months (possibly extend)
  • Hours/week: 40 (HM is able to consider candidates wanting to work 3 or 4 days per week)

Primary purpose of the role

- The Team Leader coordinates the development of best practice environmental assessment support material for the community, developers, key stakeholder groups, government agencies and internal development assessment teams. The focus of the work is on reforming and improving the development assessment processes, particularly related to State significant development and State significant infrastructure.

- The role drives the implementation of best practice and innovative processes to meet Government goals for a more robust and efficient state planning system that achieves strategic infrastructure, economic and growth objectives.

- Ideal for an experienced planning/policy professional with experience leading a small team, or potentially an experienced assessment officer looking to transition into policy development.

 

Key accountabilities

• Coordinate the day to day activities of an Assessment Practice team and provide advice, support and direction to deliver best practice support material for the community, developers, key stakeholder groups, government agencies and internal development assessment teams.

• Identify complex, sensitive and emerging issues, and review and develop policy to improve the assessment process and guide the assessment of the merits of projects.

• Participate in business improvement initiatives including the development and maintenance of team systems, policies and business process to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

• Build and maintain effective relationships, and strengthen engagement with key stakeholders to encourage engagement, provide information and respond to enquiries.

• Initiate and manage work performed by external contractors and consultants where there is a need to source external expertise, to ensure project requirements are met.

• Complete other duties under direction.

 

Requirements:

- Relevant tertiary-level qualifications such as environmental science/assessment, town planning.

- Experience leading a small team

- Experience with either planning and policy or as an assessment officer with an interest to transition into policy development

- Experience with State Significant Developments/Infrastructure (highly beneficial)

- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills

- Strong communication skills
