Experienced Security Architect required for a large Government department. 


Contract: 12 months
Pay rate: $700 to $950 per day plus super

About the role:

The Senior Manager Security Architect is responsible for the design, development, adoption and reporting of security standards, specifications and solutions to protect people, information and assets (excluding Cyber security).


Key accountabilities: 

  • Play a crucial role in designing and developing innovative, contemporary security architecture to protect people, information and assets across the department, including introducing security standards, functional/technical specifications, products and technology solutions to enable effective service delivery.
  • Establish, implement and maintain a holistic approach to the department's security architecture, through the approval and publication of standards and technical specifications that will offer longer-term maturity against the Protective Security Policy Framework and support alignment with recognised ISO standards or relevant NSW Government policies.
  • Design a multi-year, informed forward work plan based on risks to critical security infrastructure and develop an enterprise view of compliance through conducting security risk, threat and vulnerability assessments to ensure adherence to approved standards.
  • Establish and implement processes to capture and record metrics to measure maturity of security systems against policy/standards and develop/deploy appropriate reporting tools.
  • Support Infrastructure & Assets Major Projects team as an SME advisor during the planning, designing and commissioning of new and/or replacement of security assets, and be accountable for ensuring the security elements of Programs and Projects that I&A deliver, meet approved standards and specifications. Review technical drawings and specifications and provide written advice to Program managers.
  • Lead and drive a team, with efficient processes, activity planning and allocation, coaching and professional development initiatives to align resources and deliver priorities.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with internal and relevant external stakeholders including industry SME’s, to ensure that security risk assessments are intelligence informed, evidence based and that recommendations are oriented toward a holistic approach to managing security risks, threats and vulnerabilities across our diverse operating environments.
  • Maintain mandatory security certifications and knowledge of evolving security technologies and contemporary concepts.
  • Act as the security architecture advisor to the department and as required, the Stronger Communities Cluster, and represent Corporate Security at key industry and government forums.


Key skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing and implementing security architecture and technical requirements for a large, complex enterprise.
  • Experience in building relationships and facilitating consultation to build consensus around the overall solution and design of security standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting security risk assessments and making sound, defensible recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and reporting on PSPF maturity/compliance and other relevant frameworks/regulations.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • NSW Security Consultant 2A licence (or ability to obtain)
  • Qualifications in Security Risk Management
