What’s a Good Salary in IT Infra Right Now...A Breakdown for Sydney Tech Professionals

Submitted on Tue 28 Oct 2025

Hi there, Amanda here (Permanent IT Infrastructure recruiter)! If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me “What’s a good salary in Infra these days?”…well, I’d probably still be recruiting (because I genuinely love it), but I’d be doing it from a cabana in Santorini.

Here’s the truth…salaries in IT Infrastructure aren’t what they were during the post-COVID boom. We’re not seeing the wild 20%+ jumps we saw in 2022–23, but that doesn’t mean things have gone quiet. If anything, the market’s just...evolved.

So, let’s break it down and get into the real story on what’s considered “good” in 2025 in the Sydney Infra scene.

First, the Mood of the Market

We’ve moved into what I like to call the “sensible but still spicy” phase.

Gone are the days of throwing silly money at every engineer with a CV and a LinkedIn profile. But for roles that truly drive business outcomes, think Cloud Security Engineers, DevSecOps specialists, and IAM Architects, there’s still serious cash on the table. And trust me, if your skill set is anywhere near the intersection of cloud + security + automation, you’re probably more valuable than you realise.

So… What’s Actually a Good Salary in Infra Right Now?

Here’s a breakdown for Sydney-based perm roles (base + super):

Experience Level

What You Should Be Earning (If Not More)

Entry (0–2 yrs)

$80k – $100k (Think junior cloud or support roles)

Mid-Level (3–5 yrs)

$120k – $150k (Infra, cloud, or network engineers)

Senior (6–9 yrs)

$150k – $190k (SREs, DevSecOps, IAM Engineers)

Lead/Architect

$190k – $230k+ (Cloud/Security Architects, Platform Leads)

Pro tip: Roles like Cloud Security Engineer and DevSecOps Engineer often exceed these bands, especially if you're sitting in that sweet spot of rare skill + project impact + good communication.

It Also Depends on Where You Work

Some industries are paying more than others, plain and simple:

  • Finance & Insurance: Add 5–10% to the baseline + healthy bonuses
  • Health & Health Insurance: Right on baseline, but steady, secure, and with decent conditions
  • SaaS / Scale-Ups: Sometimes a smidge below baseline, but with equity or quicker progression
  • Government: Slightly below base, but roles like IAM and Security Engineers can match midpoints

And let’s not forget consulting and MSPs…they often sit below baseline for juniors, but seniors who are billable and client-facing? They’re often some of the highest-paid in the room.

Not All Titles Are Created Equal

Just a reminder…a "Senior" in one business might be a "Mid" somewhere else. Titles don’t always match salaries, your impact, tooling, and delivery matter way more.

If you’re leading projects, driving outcomes, or mentoring juniors? Start negotiating like you mean it.

And What About Hybrid vs. Remote?

In Sydney, hybrid is the norm. Most companies are happy with 2–3 WFH days, and thankfully, there’s no salary penalty for that. But full-remote roles (especially if you’re living outside Sydney) might attract a 10–15% lower offer. Fair? Debatable. Common? Yep.

Final Thoughts…

Look, a good salary is relative, it depends on your experience, your role, your industry, and how you position yourself. But if you’re in Infra right now and have the right tools in your belt, you should be sitting comfortably.

And if you’re not sure where you land, or what your next step could be, let’s fix that.
