We are seeking an exceptional Principal Engineer (Cloud) to join a leading financial services organisation that has recently completed its full migration to AWS. This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with people leadership, helping shape both the technical direction of the cloud environment and the professional growth of engineers across multiple squads.
Technical leadership: Define and maintain cloud engineering standards, guide AWS adoption, drive resilience, observability and FinOps best practices.
AWS Evangelism: Act as an internal AWS champion – sharing knowledge, uplifting cloud capability, and influencing the broader organisation on how to best leverage AWS services (including Bedrock, AI, and modern serverless patterns).
People leadership: Coach, mentor and uplift engineers (team of 3–6), fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
Squad delivery: Remain hands-on in cloud operations and DevOps practices, contributing directly to delivery within agile squads.
Security & compliance: Partner with the cyber team to embed DevSecOps and lead on secure architecture reviews (including WAF).
Deep expertise in AWS Cloud (Azure experience a plus).
Strong background in DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and modern cloud practices.
Passionate about security, compliance and architectural best practice.
Proven ability to inspire, coach and uplift technical teams.
Skilled at balancing hands-on engineering with leadership responsibilities.
Natural AWS evangelist – comfortable presenting, knowledge-sharing, and advocating for cloud-first thinking.
Knowledge of AI/automation tools (e.g. AWS Bedrock, code generation) is advantageous.
